I woke my dearest Hani for Sahur and pleasantly she walk slowly to the table and took her "sahur". When I mention about going to the office for a "Merdeka" celebration, she smiles and asked my permission to tag along. Oh yes dear...u shall.

We make our way to the event and upon arriving we could see the crowds are making their way to the main car park.

It was a memorable day for Hani. She gets the taste of people marching and performing for the invited guest. Patriotic....maybe Hani. But the least she can understand for now. Hmmm there were some men and women from the press. And I wonder ...... MLNG on the news again?

A public coastal road next to fairway.....

Have ever wonder why does a public coastal road is build next to a golf course. The view is from a tee box. If you hit a slice, your ball will make it to the pond and hazards on the right. But if you hit a biggie draw or a biggie pull, your ball will be hitting either moving vehicles or human.

I guess many would expect a simple netting structure to be build next to the out of bound line on the left. Who will be picking up the bills anyway? Golf are often played during weekends. And funny enough, the coastal road is filled with traffic and joggers during weekend. Thus making them exposed to oncoming drives from the tee box.

Does it make any senses to build the coastal road? you decide.......

I have come to get to love to play golf accidentally after watching a friend hitting balls at a driving range. Golf was not even a sport in my opinion at that time, considering I do play hockey, football, rugby and lots of other sports. The driving range was sort of located along side the route which we took to return back to Kemaman. Little that I know out of a sudden I was tempted to hit a few balls and a friend handed me a 7 iron. I was still with my office attires and was surprised to see the first ball that I hit went up and fly. After hitting a few more balls the urge to learn to play the game suddenly come crashing and the rest is history. That was in 1995 and to date has manage to get my handicap consistently at 13 although I did went down to 9 for a brief spell in 2005 and 2006.

Over the years I took up golf with a Teaching pro. No one told me to do that but I am the kind of person who will try to make sure I get the tips from the trained teaching pro rather than bits and pieces from other golfers.

Golf is not about just playing the game. Playing with better golfers, reading golf magazines, watching golfers practice and asking a lot of questions are among others things I did to get my games improved. It is not something we human are born with the skills. But it is more like a system which we human have to learn, get adapted, live with it and have fun.

Moving over, in this part of the world, golf has recently taken some interest of its inhabitants. Is it because some top golfer mum is from Asia, or is it because suddenly Koreans and Japanese golfers are in the top rank players. In Malaysia everyone was thinking of Vijay Singh when he won top medals. How we have missed the best chance to put the country in the world map. But then again, is that the only way to do it? In the past we may not find any Malaysian in any Asian tour neither in any world golf tour anyway. Lo and behold, look around now. We have Danny competing in British Open, we have Airil winning the Pakistan Open and so many others taking titles in the region.

Why golf in Malaysia will take ages to grow?

First of all if you are born with it the rest should just follow suit. But some are not born with such skill. Some are surrounded by the golf fraternity and as they grow older, they became attracted to the game because bosses want you to be seen in the corporate niche group.

Or simply because your friend have been harassing you to play the game for ages.

Or your wife has been quite busy with kids and work and you got nothing else to do at home.

Or you could have sort of giving up on other outdoor or other active indoor sports.

Or it could be a sudden burst of interest to play the game.

Or it could be even god almighty suddenly put a curse on you to play the game and start spending all your earned or saved income to boost the sports industry.

Or some sports body is seriously looking at developing young talents and starts promoting the game at junior level at various golf courses all over the country.

The good thing about the game in this country is that everyone is following suit other successful sports development. Squash, bowling and badminton are some good examples. Over the years I have witnessed kids growing up to pick up the game and some of them are now playing better golf compared to my mere 13 handicap. In most golf clubs patrons have been growing in numbers and almost 75% of their families follow suit.

But is that good enough to push the game?

Two (too…..) many people wants to become leaders in the sport. Did you remember the chaos created by MPGA and other professional golfers recently. Many would have forgotten all about it but I am very sure those professional golfers are badly affected by that incident.

Typical Malaysian, the officials are more important than the athletes. Official dine in hotels and athletes eating noodles in their hotel rooms. The same also goes to Malaysian golf. To add salt to the wounds, professional golfers are being left without proper sanctions or sponsorship and most of them end up working in driving ranges or sports retail outlets to make sure they still can make something in this world.

Thirdly, typically we Malaysians eat somewhat lavish foods most Europeans or other nations are not familiar with. But most of all, we have a lot to eat. The question is do our athletes have proper nutrients. Come to think of it, does playing golf really need proper diet? But playing golf with an empty stomach can be very tiring though.

Is golf an interesting game to play? Out of 24 million people in this country, I am not sure we even have half of them who understand what the game is all about. It is still a game where people associate with high income earner group. But not many realized that the game is building up its momentum. But still, the marketing part of making golf a popular sports in this country is still not at its even minimum level.

How many actually read golf news on the net? How many people browse golf websites? Or even how many people even actually bother to know the existence of professional golfers in this country. Look at MPGA. Look at the conditions of their office. A mere location in Desa Pandan (I come to know this because I live quite close to that area a long time ago).

Junior golfers in this country are developed to have an interest to play the game or some of them were forced to love the game. I have seen parents sending their kids to driving ranges. Some of those kids are patient enough to learn how to hit a small golf ball. Some are sitting there on the driving mat thinking why he has to make an effort to hit the ball when he can just use his hands and throw it wherever he want. Others might be sitting there crying, while some can be there munching their sweet while parents sweating it out hitting balls endlessly, hoping their children will learn to love it too.

Proper guidance is the fifth element why golf will take ages to grow in this country. How many of us are willing to spend the time to sit down with our son or daughter and taught them all they have to know about playing golf. How many parents actually know how to play golf? Or how many parents actually know everything about golf anyway.

If you look at those American or European golfers, most of them have their parents to thank for making the time to provide that proper guidance for them to grow and play golf professionally. But parents in this country are beginning to do the same. The only problem we don’t have enough parents to do that.

Income earned is our sixth element. Golf is still predominantly dominated by well earned income group. A lot of us Asians will not spend money on playing golf if they don’t have enough income to support the basic need in their home. Many still feel they would rather send sms to various live shows to promote the music industry. Don’t ask me to name them because I am simply get irritated with people who support them through sms votings.

The game however has become affordable recently. But then again it depend on how much do you spend and how do you spend it. Golf equipments can be in ranges at RM200 to RM20,000. Second hand golf equipments are actually good items for golf beginners. There are affordable basic driving ranges throughout the country. If you can’t pay RM15 for 100 balls, you may choose to pay RM8 for 100 balls at another driving range.

If you can’t afford to pay RM250 for a round of golf, you may choose to pay RM70 for a round of golf at Kundang Lake near Kuang. Plus there are a number of golf packages which actually provides discounts on green fees and also provides reciprocal golf clubs which allows you to play at various golf clubs for a discounted fee. (I won’t mention their identity because I am not paid to say that).

Seven. Is there enough facilities readily available for all golfers in all over Malaysia? Is the golf industry getting enough incentives so that investors can build more golf clubs, more public golf courses, more driving ranges, more teaching academy and more people to be involved in the industry. Is there enough corporate memberships where companies can promote their staff to take up the game? And actually promote healthy sports among those stressed out executives who endlessly spend long hours at office and some beyond working days.

Symptom no 8 is really got to with what people understand what golf can contribute as a sport in this country. It is how you approach your introduction to the game. A person can get to understand golf in his career simply because he works in a golf club. Even still that does not warrant him to understand fully what golf can give to the community. In this part of the world, so much has been organized to make golf tournament more fun. Some organized a charity sort of golf tournament. Some do it for the sake of giving farewell games to a leaving colleague. Some even come up with golf website. Some make golf jokes as ice breaker in the office. Some even uses golf as a platform to get to know more about others. Some use it to get away from home. Whatever the purpose those golfers plays golf, one could not forget its contribution the country economy.

Look at the number of Singaporeans driving up to JB in the wee morning to catch up with some golf games. Likewise, look at the influx of Japanese and Koreans into Sabah and Kuala Lumpur golf courses. Unlike if we observe the states up north in Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Kelantan or Terengganu. Unfortunately the trend is the other way around. Many choose to drive to Thailand to play there. I wonder why???

Kids learning how to play golf as symptom no 9. Dragging them to the driving range can be either as easy as bringing them to the zoo or it can be as though as waking them up for school. If those kids understand golf like Ben 10, I am pretty sure they might be right at the front door whenever you mention your intend to go to the driving range.

Last but not least, lets us look at ourselves as Malaysians. We tend to look up to something before we start pursuing our dreams. Look at how Koreans ladies making up the numbers in LPGA events. If you observe carefully, they are almost as high as more than 70% of the players in the field. How about Asians events? Can we contribute that numbers in terms of developing our boys and girls to the Asian tour?

Malaysian Boleh I guess…..why not?

Ain't going ahead neither moving back

So they have predicted another economic meltdown but this time around as if everyone is so damn sure it is just around the corner. Yet most crowd are still patronising golf greens and other daily routines. And evertime I raise the idea of moving jobs, others reminded me of job security.
So where do i go from this point. Should I move on to another job and gets to play more golf, or should I stayed on and the world starts rolling backwards as the calendar year starts shortened day by day.

I am beginning to think we should all play golf during office hours and start working at nite....hows that?

2009 and a lot of good golf to come

I have ended 2008 with some terrible golf adjusting to my new MP67. I have only myself to blame anyway. With one month resting over ramdhan and busy managing new workplace and new home for my family to settle in Bintulu. The scores have been in the range of 101, 99, 98 and 97. And most of the time it is simply because I am not hitting that green on regulation or near to the greens anyway.

The Bintulu Golf Club is quite a challenging golf club. You wont get adapted to the course in one visit for sure.

Only recently I have managed to play 45 for the first nine and still hitting 8 for the first hole Par 5. I have decided to let go all the new gadgets for fairway woods and so called friendly rescue woods. More on making good impact with iron 3 and decided to use old wilson wood 3 which most golfers would have thrown to the junkyard.

Thus adapting to the new strategy proves to be fruitfull nowadays. I dont have to use the driver regularly especially for the short and tight par 4. Course management enhancement will be the target for 2009 agenda. On the driving range, I will focus more on hitting the driver longer and hitting good shots on those iron 3.

Last but not least...........how come it is too much rain this month.......grrrrrrrr

And so I have decided enuf with sidebar contents. As much as the same with golfing days in this city. Enuf with trying to make time on the greens every single weekends. Now spending more time on thinking golf and making that proper adjustments to my swing speed and perfecting as much as possible that downswing.
Lo and behold after spending more quality hours on the range, things get pretty much better than weeks before. Considering borrowing my uncle old honma irons and make 84 at Port Dickson Golf Club is quite an achievment (after a month without full 18 holes).
We have been moving homes three times this year and that did not make 2008 such a good year to play golf. Letting go MP33 was like sliding a knife right under my throat.
In a way putting things in perspective, what else life can do to you. You win some, you loose a lot anyway.Things are looking up within the next couple of weeks. Hopefully I'll get that MP57 soon enuf. And more good golf to finish off 2008.

Doing some gardening at home nowadays.
Baru subscribe to slow broadband services.
New rented home close to LRT thus not driving to work.
Work at office is getting ... boring and predictable.
Bosses are getting...nah...they are in their own world.
Golf channels are getting weird.
Sports channel are nothing much different.
Liverpool are long due starting to play football.
Met a number of old mates...

SSG Links ... full blast for 07-08 season

And I thought I was not that excited about SSG Links. Until last week, I have decided to link myself again with it and aiming to complete every single monthly medal after ramadhan. I have been able to score between 80 to 84 again recently and start collecting 2 longest drive medal this year. A 249 m at Bunga Raya hole no 1 and a 260 m at hole no 25 at Bangi Golf Resort. My new Ping G5 made it to 260 m and it does make a lot of difference in my game. Funny that I have started using my long irons on the tee especially on the short par 4.

Target for post ramadhan season:

Top 10 in the first 3 SSGLinks monthly medal.
Top 5 in the next 6 SSGLinks monthly medal.
Top 3 in the last 6 SSGLInks monthly medal.

Which also includes:

Minimum 2 birdies in the first 3 SSGLInks monthly medal.
Minimum 3 birdies in the next 6 SSGLInks monthly medal.
Minimum 4 birdies in the last 6 SSGLinks monthly medal.

Handicapp:

Should be registered officially as USGA 12 next month.
Should go down to 10 within the next three month.
Should go down to 8 within the following six month.
Should go down to 6 before September 2008.

Course to play outside KL within the next six month:

One in Melaka.
One in Johor.
One in Pahang.
One in Perak.

Most moslem golfers take it easy for this month of ramadhan. Some still hitting it hard but most probably only 9 holes in the evening. For me this is the best month to practise your endurance. For example try walking through the "ramadhan stalls". If you can go through the crowd without feeling agitated then you would have improve your mental strength against your betting buddies.

This would be the best time to cook at home and have a quiet evening together with your dearest family. Not that I don't do it in other months but in ramadhan it have its special ummph attached to it.

But then again.....who wants to play next weekend sunday???? 18 holes then buka puasa???

Sunday 14th September 2006. 18 holes at Bangi Golf resort in the morning and then another 18 holes at Nilai Spring tee off at 1.50 pm. The morning session was merely a networking game and to introduce myself to the freternity. Hit 260m on tee box 25 and won the longest drive. Earned top 5 placing but the prizes was only up to 3rd. 1.15pm started my car engine and drove like mad to Nilai Spring. Only then I realize my Proton Wira can really hit 160 and made it on time at Nilai Spring.
Tee off at hole no 3. It was not fun. Legs are getting edgy and the grip is simply not there for the game. Started hitting way to the right on the tee.

hey I did not defend the title but I get a 29inch tv for lucky draw.....hows that!!!!

After a long long break

I have not been blogging simply becoz work was quite tight. Honestly I hate it. But things gets into proper order recently. Priorities have been set and I am ready to jump out of the ship. After all if all things went well, by the end of the year I would be able to play golf more often than ever. And likely by next year I should be able to cut my handicapp to below 7.

Played Bangi Golf resort , hitting 41 on the front nine and 45 at the back nine. Not that happy with the score simply due to the fact a bunch of old aristocrats and three stupid yuppies in front of our group are patheticly slow. And sad enuf I lost it at hole number 14th and start making bogey and double bogey till the last hole.

Played Kundang Lake today and hitting 42 on the front and making 40 at the back. Probably the best score for the last two years of golf. Except for some errant driving at the 9th, miss hit the second shot on the 10th, and a couple of bad 8 iron shots to the green. Happy enuf to play 82 but without a birdie for the day.

I am thinking of going below 80 next week.....

One of the worst place to land the ball off the green with the green side not well maintained..

Nice green offers good putting line....but then again , if your putt is lousy....it remains.

There is a big difference between a good lie on the fairway with titwarf or bermuda.

Little shoes from Amsterdam. Never new we bought it...or at least we must have forgotton all about it...

The other precious metal in the bag. MP33. Unique , a class on its own. No longer produced. The only blades I have ever used or going to buy. A miracle club , and a no one can take that away from my bag forever....

KL SPE Golf 2007 at Glenmarie

It has been over 8 years since the last SPE Golf tournament, and suddenly this year I was invited to play. The format has since changed over the years. All the buayas(big crocs) has since left and the new system 36 Stableford has sort of eliminate the problems. But then again , most are not keen to join unless they can get one or two birdie on their score card.
This year , the organisers has done quite well. No extravagant goodies but excess sponsorship are now being utilised to sponsor a group of 10 students from UTP and UKM. Nice touch ! and congratulations to the organisers.
Playing 88 gross for the day after struggling on the first nine , managed to score a respectable 41 on the back nine.
That would be the only golf for this month, coz next week I will be travelling again. Most probably will only have the oppurtunity to play again sometimes in early June.

Hanie has been picking up words on a faster mode nowadays. At times both of us can be amazed out of the blue when she started to voice up her own opinion in English (note: Dad is half malay n jawa , while Mum is melayu selangor). I guess that channel 63 on Astro do have some positive impact on kids.
Dad , himself has not been having the best of week at the office. One consultant is spoiling his day by making nasty remarks thru an email to my boss. And guess what , I don't give a >?@#$%% about it. Work has sort of accumulating and I need to sort it out next week so that it won't come in during the buzy may.
I will be playing golf tomorrow morning , after a month leaving that tools stuffed in the storeroom. And I am pretty sure there will be quite hitting those balls to the water hazard. Then next week will be travelling all over the place again. This time , going down under for 5 days and 4 nights. Wonder hows the weather down there next week. After down under , then most probably will have to fly into Jakarta for a few days before coming back to KL and then flying into Europe for a day or two before entering the African continent for another week or so.
Which simply means , I have to wait for another month to play golf again......

And I thought we have started to bring out professionals and more tour events in the country. But sadly , typical of being malaysian, we are also guilty of ruining the game as well. Golf courses grows in numbers and also the number of tour playing professionals as well. But yet we see a group of sportsman screaming for help and no one is actually doing anything to help them. Is it simply because golf is only for those who have the bucks? Or is it because we do not believe our own malaysian can win major tour events? Or is it simply because we should not be seen helping these professional become millionaires ?
Sports in this coutry is still divided by three main generations. First the pre-war generations , who may see sports as something unusual and facinating to watch. Then we have the war generations whom would probably sees sports as something not to be enjoyed since there is no time to paly around when bullets are flying all over the place. And last but not least the post war generations , making full use of sports facilties to make sport as way of earning a living. Most of the time post war generations will suffer , do you want to know why ?

Pre-war generations may be switching the channels on tele for something more subtle. War generations might not like the idea of watching sports but probably enjoys other sports which most of malaysian do not enjoy watching live. You figure out what sports is that. And both can't stand the post war generations watching sports in full sporting spirit as if you are watching it live.
In golf post war generations and war generations will be keeping the golf courses to their own space. The likes of young man playing golf is probably is nuisance to them.
In this country sports officials are better treated than the athletes. We enjoy watching officials scambling for their so called high status post in such associations rather than focusing on growing the athletes.
Nicol are lucky to have parents who cares. So does Shalin and many more. But how many parents do really care for their kids to excel in sports? If you can't make a good grade in your secondary educations, likely that you will be doing....yeahh you can go on make that list.....
etc etc etc etc....

I was hoping someone really take up and do something about the problems the m'sian pro are facing now. I am not fighting for their welfare but on general for the good of them game and for future playing professionals in this country. Do you think young kids will be aiming to take up golf and turning pro when they see headlines like....."pro banned for not ...." naahhhhh .

ps:...........If i have the money , I will create a new tour like association and make new waves. We don't have to do it the old ways....... Am I day dreaming again??????

Sorting out my honey....

I have not been able to play golf for a month now. First it was weekend on the job flying over to Paris and then to the centre of African Continent. A week after that , it was office over the weekend to sort out year end stuf we accountant lived for. And then a week after that it was weekend looking after someone admitted with bronchitis and trying to sleep on a chairis definitely a life time experience.
Thus this weekend , I have decided to stay put at home. And catching up with sorting out those boxes which we brought over from miri about 9 months ago. That long huh.... . Finally i managed to set up that day bed in our little reading room a.k.a. cyber room where all the books , computer gadgets and other stuffs are stored.
Then I remembered this pic that I took 4 months ago. A little butterfly landing on a little flower (can't figure what was its name was, then you can figure it out for me if you know it). And then it hit me, how a small creature can fly around and landed on this little flower for what , food ? drink ? or honey ?

Golf produce leaders ....?

Saw that statement made on tele last nite and I can't really grasp what was the intent. But looking back some of it might be true though. I was making my way to a meeting last friday and having been there early , can't help making pictures with that SE K800i. Maybe golf have given me some impetus of why being early is a must for a golfer. If you are late to the tee box for a freindly game, your partner might say something not nice or not planning future games with you anymore. Basically if you are late , then you are disrupting the whole flights waiting behind you and of course your flight mate will stading there at the tee box making smiles and body gestures to the others waiting behind them. Thus likewise if you plan for a meeting and you did not turn up on time will it make you a good leader.
But still some golfers are not that good leaders anyway. Some make them even worse. Simply because they are too engrossed with the game , they might do more golf then do cleaning up their mess at their office. But for those who plays golf for a living, it would be a different thing all together right ? or is it ? But if we were to choose golfers to become our leaders , who do you think will be the right person to run your country ?

GA says - As long as politics is still there and human are hungry for power, excuses are made on a daily basis for the sake of human right...n you do know most of them are scoring boogie but writing birdies on their score cards...

Quite a roller coaster ride but I do enjoyed playing the Alam Shah nine with no knowledge at all on the golf course. But the iron swings are getting back in motion and the driver did not let me down except for some over swing on hole par 4 , 6th. The green speed are noted as 8.5 and on the real green it is pretty slower than that. At times you can't really predict how the green will react to your putt or chip to the green.
President Nine - 43
On hole 12th , I hit the driver so hard that it hits the slope on the right and it roll back into the fariway and left me with only 100m going downhill. The second shot was not that good , trying to ounch the ball to the middle of green , I end up pushing it to the right. Then it was the fairly consistent chipping game which make it a simple tap in for a par.

Handicapp for the day - 14
Nett for the day - par golf 72.
Final words: Food was fairly good. The crowd was quite fairly friendly. Houses are located next vey close to the fairways. Not much water hazards are in play but blind hole are quite common. The yardage is a bit out of its original yardage. No keys for the lockers. One golfer was quite rude when I try to wear my shoes in the locker room. I guess , guests are not treated that friendly after all. Maybe he had a late nite and cant get over it. The layout are not that interesting and they could better with the greens.

Not to be declared cause we were playing social golf. There more talking than hitting the balls. Plus it was the best chance to get acquainted with old buddies. Funny enuf all this years we never had the chance to play together.Started Kajang nine well with a par and then it was mubo jumbo high roller coaster ride.

I was lucky enuf I brought along my face towel. Not for the face though this morning , coz I end up covering my nose from excessive sneezing echos. Manage only a couple of par , while the rest was like drving our buggy for a ride in the park.

Final words: Food was good in Bangi Golf resort. If you prefer eating more than shower , then go there and eat as much as you can. Services are OK. The boys and gals there are in abundance and they wont let you die starving waiting for your food.

Can't figure why iron games are not as usual. Were hiting left and right and can't get it on the green on regulation. Most at the time hitting it too thin leaving the ball scrambling over the fairway.

Found out the why second shot was not working. Finally get a birdie on 15th. The last three holes were quite scary cause next door at Hyatt Saujana the lightning siren has been heard and it was not the best golf to play at that conditions.

Back in 2006 , I have listed a few things I wanna do in 2007. And one of the wishlist has been granted. Playing at the mines! However it does not turn out to be the best golf game anyway. As expected I was trying to think what the course desinger has in his mind. I was not impressed and I don't think I wanna play there again unless I get a free ride anyway. It is not a walking course and you definitely has to use the golf buggy. If you are a playing tour member, it can be quite taxing walking up and down those hills. Again another golf course with fancy houses next to each fairways. No it is not houses but I would rather named them as extravagent ways of showing how much you can spend on a place where you can live.
The following weekend , did play again at Tasik Puteri. Greens are still under repair and the hills are still not to my liking. But then again I have to start desinging my own golf course to suit my game ain't it! It was a nice outing with some frens and we were sort of having the game for a give away party to a fren flying over to africa to work. I wonder how is he doing down there. The last time I went there , I did not play golf for a record four years. Plus the only thing that is left in the store is an old maxfli golf bag given to me back in 1999. The "Racko" was admiring the fairways at Tasik Puteri. The only thing he admires was the fairways. Still in good shape and playing there you do need to stay in the fairways or else the the rough will be killing down your numbers.
The following day we went to Glenmarie with some frens from the land from japan. And while playing I was quite mystified by one of the markings next to the green. OK , I will repair my own ball mark and doing it for others ? Hang on a minute. What do you mean for "one other"? Is it quite clear with asking us to repair our own ball mark and it is actually part of the thing golfers have to do anyway. Anyway , probably the greenkeeper has tough time repairing the ball marks or the workers who has to do that everyday has backpain ? I leave it to you to comment further. For me , enuf with reminding the golfers to repair their own ball mark but asking them to do other would rather sound too much. Although at time I do that simply because I hate to see those ball marks spoiling the green.
The load at work has apparently growing each day now and 2007 will definitely be a mountain to climb. Lucky enuf I have managed to squeeze in some golf games in between so that it will sort of take of some of the office stress. It is quite tough to juggle between two portfolios at the same time , but I am having fun sorting it out piece by piece. Some portfolios need special attention and need to be treated with care. Some even can come in tough packages and others can be a stroll in the park. Anyway , m running out of time , need to do some house cleaning and kids to feed. To be continued in part 2.......

Plus I don't remember you being nice to me anyway...ha ha ha me with old grudges.

I had a tough few weeks due to the fact that a colleague left for an overseas assignment and his unfinished shots are left on my desk. Not enuf trying to sort out the current portfolio , the additional portfolios are keeping me wide awake. Within those big stacks of steels, an old fren drops a line. At times I wonder how many of all those old frens have I called over the years. And most of the time I am guilty of not making the effort to call.
Last weekend , Tasik Puteri on Saturday and then another 15holes at Glenmarie. Why 15 holes ? It rains and we decided to finish early right after seeing the big clouds hovering the skies of shah alam. Saturday was not that bad. 86 gross and two stupid double bogey cost me , errr ... we were not putting up any bets for the day. After a couple of bogey and a par on hole 12th, I was trying to make the distance ont the tee at 13th but end up shfting the gears too early and push the ball to the right.
Hit another one and follow it up with a good hit with three wood but still end up in the rough next to the green. Hit a poor chip shot and had to make two putts for a double. Next to the 14th tee , I was trying to think deep why those irons are not adjusting to my swings. Again on a short par 3 , my shot went dead left but lucky enuf not to went into the pond. While the other three golfers are on the green , I had to make a good chip next to the pin just to make the four of us make par on that par 3.
On sunday , the game is purely social golf. Entertaining few frens coming over from Japan and another golfer decided to take time off from his part time MBA classes. Glenmarie was not that tough but the green sitting on top of your shoulders and undulating fairways , makes it a bit frustrating hitting the green short by 10m.
I will be away from the office for two days this week. Not to mention friday is another given public holiday, to replace the rest day on saturday. There will be no golf this weekend. One of our cousin is getting engaged and a frens daugther will be getting married and this time I will try my best to make it. Still can't make the trip back to Johor to visit my parents with the flooding conditions over there is getting worse everyday. How I wish I cud lend all my hands for them.
If you can contribute by all means , do lend a hand or donate anything you can to the nearest donations centres. Till then .... have a good week ahead.

Another day playing golf....

Last saturday I was lucky enuf being invited to play at one of the exclusive golf club in the country. Mind you it is not that easy to find my way to the club at 6.30 in the early morning. Soft greens and good turfs but the fairways are not that kind to my MP33.
Playing thru 9 holes I was amazed at the course set up but could not help wondering if we were to play without those buggy. With the view of nature and bungalows all the way next to the fairway, playing golf is like walking in the park. Anyway I was not focusing too much on playing golf but instead could not help my self admiring the bungalows and the course set up. Which actually explains why I played 95 on the day.

Note - Next venue , courses in South East Asia...or Houston if that permits...

I have to admit I had enuf of old school reunions. Those are the days where if you are lucky , you will among the popular, if not you might be regarded as one of those nerds. If you don't falls into both you will be like me neither popular or among the nerds. I was one of those who either other dont make frens or me my self not to bothered to make frens with others.

In those days , kids smokes. Where do we get the supplies ? Backdoor or skipping class to buy ciggy from secret exit points at the back of the hostels. Hey ! I was the only who brings in ciggy thru the front door and no one notices. Reason why it is still a secret how I did it ? Well I dont share it with anyone.

Some of those popular ones tend to strikes it high in their life. So they make thousands and millions and they drive fancy cars and big houses and so much alarms and very concerned of their safety if the alarm went dead. I guess the more you earn, safety becomes priorities. I guess thats why I not too bothered for not earning that much. Still have six kids and earn a decent living.

Some of the nerds do turn out to have some wild side in them coming out when they grew older. Why ? probably too fed up of being nerds I guess.

Buggy and their flags

I have not been blogging for quite some time simply because , its a bit hectic at the office. Golf has not been given priorities these days and I am still working on the right golf club to join in KL. Quite a number of golf clubs to choose from in and around KL but most of them are about 30 minutes away.
Last week we had a go at Bangi Golf resort (white buggy). 27 holes and its pack on friday afternoon. Tee off at around 2.45 pm and only managed to finish the 18th hole at 8.30 pm. Right after the game I had to dash back home just to beat the traffic.

A few days earlier , we went to Tasik Puteri (green buggy at the bottom) in Rawang on Xmas day. If you were to play there , dont choose a public holiday. Caddies are limited and to make things worst , it was the hottest day for the week. A nice golf course which I make that 79 in 2004. Did not play that well but managed to make others pay for the drinks though.
Lo and Behold , two greens are not in good conditions and to be honest , I wont play there for the next two month not until those greens are back in good conditions. Plus it is about 40 km away from where I stay at the moment.
Perangsang Templer at the moment has the best looking buggy in KL.
With extreme red , those new buggy are strong at hills and you wont have to push on the brake so hard. But with heavy rains it can be quite an experience to play there.
In 2007 , golf could be even more limited than ever. I am travelling out of the country and be lucky if I can play even a single round of 18 holes. Frens quite close to Houston please write to me , coz I might be heading there for a day or two by end of january......A round of golf maybe ????

Early morning at Danau Golf club.

Pin flag with the club logo. It has that touch of class. The greens are tricky yet true greens. A lot of blind holes. Rough are totally out of play. Fairway can be a bit of a problem when it rains. Well managed by Saujana. It is one of the home clubs for SSG Links members. Located within UKM compound , so getting there during public holidays can be a bit confusing. But they put up good signage so that golfers don't get lost within the UNi campus.

Funny is my work collegue are the one who spoils it.

Maybe there are some truth in it considering the amount of time I have to spend at the office while waiting for the two new candidates coming in. New challenge in a familiar territory. Surely will miss those jolly and cheerful miri golfers. Met a few doctors , politicians , local bussinessman , some ceo's etc etc etc. Some happy memories on the golf course. Jack GA hates golf

Funny huh ? A golf addict suddenly hates golf. Well , I turned down an oppurtunity to play golf with a bunch of people simply because, the organising part is poor. I wont let you guys run my lfe for four days in those conditions. This is where I have to draw the line. Although I love playing golf , it doesnot mean you can use it to pull me to that tournament. No way jose....

After a few trips to KK, Miri and Labuan I have learnt a lot about the golfers who manages the trips. At times I have spoken out loud and end up being critised and end up worse than the culprit. The only reason why I played 84 in Miri is because I can run my own life and decide what to do before the game. A good two hours on the range before each round will help me to play better golf. Instead in Labuan and KK , I don't have that. And to make it worse the transport arrangement was lousy.

With that I am concentrating on my new assignment in the city. Will be moving out from here with my family . It is a good break for my dearest Zalita. After all since we got married , we have been moving all over except KL. And all those frens and other relatives , now we have more time to connect.

BBC Sports , European Tour and BMW Asian Open

First BBC sports make a blunder on reporting the 1st day results of the BMW Asian Open. Instead of reporting third place DANNY CHIA of MAS (generic shortform for MALAYSIA) , they put up D CHAI of MYN ( which is usually used to denote Myanmar).

Second , if you watch the live telecast , BMW Asian Open , is projecting European golfers more than the Asian golfers. OK it is European PGA Tour sactioned tournament , but what the heck is that in promoting Asians to play more golf. I was hoping to see the likes of Mardan , Danny and the Thais.

Third , if you watch the playoff , isn't a bit funny when you see the man who carries the results signage following the players. During a playoff do we really need to know what is their current scores . NO !

Golf is never a game that you can master in a day after reading the hitchhickers guide to golf. Indeed you need the skills , passion and a lot of patience. But what hit me today is something other than the game it self. I was approached by a fren , who wanted to play over the weekend and ask me to get the bookings done for the four of us. So I did. And make the bookings with sms flying around for confirmations. Even on friday evening , another golfer reminds everyone of the tee times and where to play.

At 6.30 am , a golfer called me to inform that a fren who should be playing with us is now at the tee box playing with some VIP. Oh boy !!! I guess we golfers with no magic titles in front of our names will not get priorities and the liberty to be informed that he could not make it.

well .......... I guess we know who you are now.
played 89 today with one long birdie putt. The rest of it .... nahhhhh u don't wanna bother .

We had just recovered from augusta and some are still making fuss about Tiger's statement. M might have just won it but some others prefers to make unneccessary headlines. After seeing golfers going thru paces in a hectic final day , I was amazed at some who attempted to paraded beautiful lass making putts on the green. Geeeee ... what are they trying to do ?

Anyway , back to the swing. I am back to golf swing after hectic year end closings. Being involved in accounting , with your financial accounts ending in March , I have not been golfing much lately. Making it quite difficult to maintain that swing. But after a round of 84 gross on Tuesday , I might be able to make it back to low 80's again.
KGM is organising Sarawak Amateur Open at end of April. I am not into it this time simply because my handicapp have been demoted to 13.1 (MGA NHS). Making things worse , when marking my score on the card , I get this eery and nasty look from my fellow golfers. What ? you are playing 14 ? Among other reason why I have not been golfing much is simply because of our beautiful "alya". She is now about to reach 5 months old. And most of the time , after work , I have always caught up with either making it to the first tee or turn right and head home to see our dearest "Alya".

anyway , dad is playing again early tomorrow morning.....(miri cuti beb ...)

It is plain and simple. School wardens are not trained to become school wardens. The growing number of school hostels and boarding schools in this country has grown since I left my boarding school almost 2 decade ago. In those days school wardens are even worse. There are no such things as being a caring and sensitive wardens. They are specially breed to be a fierce and most of them are not much different to prisons wardens.
Funny enuf these has not been taken seriously. While some wardens are fatherly figures and responsible to the kids under their care , now we have come across so much news on irresponsible wardens.

But who is to be blame for that ? I won't send my kids to any of those boarding schools or hostels for sure .... Will you ?

It is ironic that government counters are still in the dark ages on how to treat customers esp when young families visited their counters. They have special consultations rooms which is not used and left unused. Or maybe when some dato or YB or mentiri visit the offices , only then such facilities will be used.
They could be more caring to customers who have to bring along their small child with them. I dont have any maids at home , so I have to bring the whole package to the counters. And when I can't reproduce a copy of some document , I was asked to go out of the que and make copies. I did went beserk searching for a nearby facility and left my kids in the waiting chairs.

Pak Lah....I am not voting for your offices next election for sure...

Went there twice back in 2004 and 2005. Sri Selangor has some tight fairways. The water hazards on the first hole can be a bit tricky. Some of the greens are elavated , which simple means the yardage can be a bit funny.

Heard so much about UKM Bangi. Have not ventured to the course yet. So I dont have any idea what the course looks like . Unless anyout out there willing to give us some clues on what to expect from the course.

KDE Ampang. Since I will be moving on to Desa Pandan very soon , I guess I might buy a club membership close to me , which is actually KDE. Played there with some Ampang frens. But it was not a good outing. Maybe being new to the course , I had some hesitation on hitting a few shots here and there. I like the short par 3. The par fives are reachable in two but both needs a good tee shot for you to play a good long 2nd shot to the green.

IOI palm garden. Played there once back in 2004. Short and hilly. Very undular fairways, at times you might end up not liking your straight tee shot to the fairways. The fairway is a bit softie when it rains , which explains why many dont like to play there at nite.

I had never seen BUkit Jalil gour course yet. But in few months time , hopefully I will have that oppurtunity to try it. By end of the month I should know when I will be moving back to Metropolitan key el...

Its one of the games which I will miss once I moved on to another job. Three years and consecutively at third spot each time. We played at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Resort on saturday. The weather is so hot. I forgot to put on my lotion and still suffering from the itchy burning feeling on sunday morning.

I am not physically fit though. The back injury I had in the freak accident back in 1998 is still haunting me. After positively only 3 over gross at tee box hole no 9 , I was already thinking about gross 39. The tee shot at hole 9 was not that bad , but the 2nd shot was blown away to the right and hit the pond. The recovery shot was not even close to nice and end up hitting 7 on a par4 9th.

At times I am quite amazed at how golfers attempts to make things looks good (which actually make things looks even worse) for themselves and ask us to react back in a gentlemen manner. Thats why playing golf is not easy when you have to face weirdos , slow pacers , beginners who fails to observe golf ettiqutte.

Then everything starts to fall apart and end up scoring 50 at the back 9. Errr handicapp for the day 18 ? and scoring nett 74 ? urrrghhh.....

Do not attempt to take up golf lesson or even try to play golf if you are the following :

1. Do not understand what slow play means.
2. Fail to remember how to count 1 to 10.
3. Swearing too much to golf accessories when things does not go your way.

6. Can't stop talking.
7. Do not know how to judge time.

In Asia golf has not been able to market the game yet. Even in Malaysia , many associate the game with the rich. While it is still quite an affordable game for some , many have not ventured to the game simply because , miscommunication with their other half , mismanaging of their own income , misconception of the games itself and last but not least not even enuf public golf courses around them. But despite all the reasons above , many have blame it on slow rate of catching up with the swing for the game and also time to spend on making those swing at least looks like a good golf swing. Having someone to coach you on how to make the golf swing can at times emberassing. Often heard it is either the pro or even the golfer themselves yelling at each other arguing what would be the best golf swing. I do frankly feels that not everyone can match Tiger golf swing. While I have been compared to be more or less having similar swing like Fred Couples , a fren of mine argues his swing is much more influenced by Tiger.

Often we heard , golfers dont have time to spend hours on the practise range due to working hours and workloads. But they have time to play 18 holes during weekdays. Dont ask me how they managed to do that. It is often said , professional golfers will spend at least an hour on the practise range before they tee off on the first tee , wherelese , an amatuer will be rushing to the first tee right after they park their cars . Is it misconception or rather wrong attitudes. Amateurs often I witnesss , blame on either the weather , the grip , workload or even irritating phone calls when they make that shot way right into the hazard. Most even will not tolerate any other golfers making comments about their golf swing. Some even can start a fight simplly because one is making funny remarks about his or her golf swing.
Nowadays golf are making headlines in Asian Countries. New young breed of ladies pro are emerging often with their dad as their caddie. This has been quite a remarkable trend. They are a bunch of hardworking young golfers , starting to make waves of headlines not only in Asia but also in the LPGA. It is happening in all Asian countries. But golf is yet to make positive impact in Malaysian sports communities. If only wives are more supportive of their husband efforts to sweat it out on the golf course or even bosses make more oppurtunities for their peers to pick up golf. The game needs a big hand. If not ... all the efforts will remain on the plan worksheets....

First because today I have just been informed on my evaluation at the office and for the first time in 14 years I will get a merit evaluation. I was jumping up and down like a small kid deep in my heart. For the first time I felt I was being evaluated throughly and feels good about my performance this year. 1. I want new grips for my irons and driver before November. - did change those old grip with new grips by Golf Pride ( the combo red and black colour and it has helps a lot in improving my grip and also my iron games )

2. I want those nippon steel shaft as well. - errrr still can't afford to change it , maybe next year ?

Status : Saving some money...

3. Maybe changing 984 driver with the latest driver 950 series - I have dump my titliest 983 e for Maruman Exim Nano II driver with 10 degrees loft. Consistent driving accurancy and distance as well. Top strike remains at 255 m mark.

Status : Nano II doing well...

4. Whole year supply of Titliest Pro v or Callaway ...or even Maxfli A10 series - still under negotiations with some ball manufacturers.

Status : Under negotiation.

5. Augusta , 18 holes with Tiger - Unfortunately I have to wait for another year. Tiger schedule for 2005 has been fully booked. Last I checked , in 2006 he wants more time to be with his wife , errrr who's preference is that ?

6. Saujana , another 36 holes with Yusof Daud. And this time win the title MPGC 2005 - No I did not get the chance to do that . F*&5%$#$%^&.....err

I do admit for the last 13 years at times I can be such a nasty office mate , one who can suddenly screams out of nothing. I can a big jerk most of the times and at times make statements which many have labelled me with sour reputations. But it all now is history. Since I got back from over the sea posting , life have been fiiting in well. I did recover well in my golf swing. Two more beautiful gals. Non hectic routine on a daily basis , but at times switch to KL usual traffic hassles. My other half have been patient with me . Standing tall and stood by all the decisions that I have made for the last 32 months. I have come to realised , you can play positive office politics. You also can instill good positive work ethics by making sure all your bosses needs are attended to. Hard work - work smart - Positive external party lobbying - Managing your subordinates needs - Never stays late beyond 5 pm - Clear in your ideas - Grab oppurtunities to project my capabilities - and guess what ............

I am now reaching for the stars.....

Time will come when I have to move on. New place. New job. New employer. New boss. New golfer mates. New golf courses. New house and new new new new etc etc etc etc....By then , this pic will reminds me of all those days when I recovered from 4 years of no golf while being posted to northern africa. All those days playing at KGM and Eastwood and some of the golf courses in Borneo. Pantai Mentiri , RBA , Kinabalu , Dalit and hopefully some of those near Kuching in may before I leave for new assignment.
I have met a number of new frens while in Miri. Most of it simply because Miri Golf Club (KGM) is one of those friendly golf club whom golfers do not have to have 4 balls to come to play. After their success in handling Miri Masters last year , I have no doubt the club will be able to handle another similar event this year. Eastwood Golf and Country Resort has resurfaced from a swampy piece of land , to become one of the finest golf courses in this country. With the inaugural Malaysian Ladies Open being held there recently , Miri City is on the right track in attracting more tourist to this tourism city. Bravo Miri , you certainly have make your mark on the world map.

Rumbles in Borneo

Early tomorrow morning , Battle of the Giants commences at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Resort. I will be leading a foursome , playing texas scramble. This time I will make sure we will make all 18 hole on regulation and at least half of all the birdie chances are holed. It will interesting , some of us will be playing a 2 man team and others on a 4 man team.

Day out to Malaysia Ladies Open - Hanie n Dad

After a miserable 18 holes scoring 96 gross, yes not a good score for a handicapp 13 golfer, Hanie took me to the Eastwood Valley Golf course to watch the final holes at the inaugural Malaysian Ladies Open. Hanie was excited to watch the ladies hit the shot from the tee and at times was caught mumbling , "thats a good shot , isn't Dad". There I was smiling on my own wondering where did she learn to say those words at the very young age of 3. We did not follow the crowd but instead wait for the final group to reach the final hole. During the closing ceremony , Hanie was already started to signal some discomfort and later I found out she was thirsty. Then we rushed to the clubhouse , bought some can drinks and the smiles returns to Hanie cute face. We were on the 18th green during the closing ceremony. Hanie was smiling gazing at the crowd and also at the prize presentation. "One day she will be among the winning crowd ", me indulging into the world of unknown thoughts . Maybe yes maybe not , but she has taken the first step to watch golf at a very tender age. Wonder whats next ....?

After the prize presentation we went back to the clubhouse hoping that some golfers will sign her new cap. But upon reaching the stairs , I was greeted by some frens and qucikly poised the question to me , " Another 9 hole , shall we , KGM 4 pm sharp? ". Hey ! its 3.30 pm and I look at Hanie , smiling and signalling that we have to rush home . Lucky enuf Hanie did not hesitated and was smiling all the way to the car , and all the way home. Not realising her dad is already driving almost F1 driviers lookalike rushing thru the afternoon sunday traffic.
We reached home at about 3.40 pm and quickly guide Hanie to the door and wave goodbye. She was still with her smiles and wave back. After a quick look at the front gate hitting the other end , I did not waste another single second and rush to KGM. We managed to finish 9 holes and guess what , I played 40 gross with 1 double bogey and 2 bogey with the rest of the holes on par. Then I was thinking ...... play more golf lah....

It was a one of those events that would put Miri on the Golfing world. Malaysian Ladies Open 2006 title was won by a young korean , JI EUN HEE returning score of - 2. Miss HEE was determined to win the title even after hitting 7 at hole no 14. Earlier she was leading the scoreboard with - 3 , but after hitting triple bogey on hole 14 , she scores two birdies to take the title. Miss Russamee , Miss Lee Jeong Eung and Miss Eleanor Pilgrim tied for second spot. The amateur title was won by Miss Kristie Smith from Australia.

Eastwood Valley : GA Course review (uncertified)

The course should be the best course to play in Malaysia. Why ? Try it and you will get the answer. But here are some hole to hole review incase you are flying over to Miri to play the course. It is a must for a golfer to play at Eastwood if you are in town.

Hole 1:
Par 5 - Quite long but adviseable to play it safe. Your tee shot should avoid the bunker on the left which is only reachable if you hit your tee shot beyond 220m. Your second shot should try to aim the right side of the fairway making it is more green to play your third shot. The green is elevated , protected by two bunker on the front left and right with a small access to the green and you have to play high loft approach shot to make sure of any chance to make a birdie putt.

Hole 2:
Quite short par 4. Again the green is quite similar to previous green. Except that it can be a bit tricky if you are faced with headwind. Since the green is elevated , playing from 100m with PW can end up with a deep bunker infront of the green. In the bunker you will have to raise your bunker shot beyond 7 meter.

Hole 3:
Short Par 3 , protected by two bunker on right and left. Usually you will have wind blowing from left to right which can be a bit tricky at times. Two tier level green but each pin location should be either front or at the back of the green.

Hole 4:
Short par 4 , fairway protected by a bunker about 180 m from the tee. And another bunker awaits for the long hitter if your shot fade to the right hand side of the fairway. Aim at the trees of the left and playing a fade or straight shot should reach the front green easily. Again two tier green , with bunker on the front left.

Hole 5 :
Another short par 4. A big pond awaits you infront of the green. Your tee shot shuld not go beyond 180 m coz you will end up in the water but if can hit it beyond 250 m , why not give it a try. At 180 m mark , the fairway is protected by two bunker on the left and right , making it difficult to hit your second shot to the green if you end up in the bunker. The green itself is elevated two tier protected by a deep bunker on the right.

Some notes after a long lay off from the blog:

Some air crew offers me meal but me want coffee. And guess what , she could have just pour a cup of coffee , instead she served others first and gave me that cup of coffee 10 minutes later.
Played Labuan , 9 hole , but pulling the trolley on that course is not that easy. But I did enjoyed the company of some local frens.
Played Nilai Spring and gross 85. Did enjoyed the game. Was struggling on the first nine but managed to pull off some good second shots on the back nine. One birdie and no triple bogey this round.
KL-Miri-KL-Miri-Labuan-Miri-KL-Miri... catch the drift?
Pok Ya has yet to decide whether he wants to talk to me or not. Dunno why ? Maybe he has some wrong perceptions abt me...
Liverpool games , Arsenal and Man U are some clubs with stars but this season , they did not make enuf effort to beat Liverpool.
Did managed to catch the game against Benifica. Still feels that they played quite well but yet to blend in in the strike force.

Next weekend Miri will busy managing some top professional golfers playing in the Malaysian Ladies Open at Eastwood. Could have register for some caddy job , but a bit weary this week.

Yes I am flying again tomorrow and gettin a bit tired of it. The weekend was nice , earned some bragging rights for playing par golf gross 72 and secure some golf vouchers. The reason for making 72 is simply because we are playing Texas Scramble format with a four man team. Me being the captain , do all the tricky stuffs , eg chipping it close to the pin and making the long birdie putt. We could have do a lot damage but after only three holes in regulation and coverting only two birdies , nothing much to brag about anyway.
Still suffering from the heat wave on Saturday. Liverpool finaly earned their results in the FA Cup. But the freak fall by Smith is not any football fan would like to see especially on TV when they put it on replay mode for a number of times.

A bit busy this week. Business travels , Interviews , catching up with some old frens and some other stuffs. Business travels is now beginning to make my golf swing a bit edgy. Even the job interviews at times makes me more edgy. Was wondering at times whether I am making the right moves or not.
Will not be able to make it to KL this weekend. Zed and Zuhri , sorry guys , wish I could make it up to both of you. But I will be watching from far and hopefully both of you will enjoy the weekend there.
The business trips have been rewarding , enlighting and at times provided some avenue to make new contacts espcially in the things that you do at the office.
Liverpool game tonite will be a joy to watch. This afternoon , I will be at Eastwood . It should be fun and dunno...maybe a few prizes to bring back.

Once upon a time...

Sometimes in June this year I would love to celebrate my birthday playing golf at any of the golf courses in Key El with my best foursome. It would have to be Dr R for his witty post shot comments, Mr K for his long drive on the tee and last but not least Anak Iderus who now would be at home nursing his knee injury. At that point of time , I would assume I will be already working in Key El and enjoying my new job. If not then I would be in this same city plaughing thru the cowgrass of KGM.
I would have been in Key El next weekend , tailing the pros at KLGCC. But sorry bro , fulus kureng and I have to cancell the trip to Key El that weekend. Instead I have received an invitation to play at Eastwood Valley on the 18th. That was a big suprise but a nice one though. And yes I am thankful and looking forward for the outing on the 18th. Next week will be quite a week. Meeting on monday and expected to travel again on wednesday for a job interview and off to Labuan on thursday before flying back to Miri on Friday evening.

After a round of 18 holes , here is what all golfers should do :

1. Wash your hands before you consume any food or drinks.
2. All your golfing attires are wash seprately from your daily laundry items.
3. Golf shoes must be clean and wash before you take them home.
4. Take a good shower at the club before you go back to your family.
5. Clean your grips regularly.
6. And also clean your irons.
7. Do not let your children plays around with your used golf balls.
8. Or even your golf gloves or your golf bags.

Why ? The amount of pesticides and other chemicals used to maintain the golf course , if you know them , you will not regret doing the above.

Football at its worst...

I think I knew very well now why I can't support teams like Chelsea. First most of them players use dirty tactics to get another fellow footballer to get the boot simply by falling off too easy. It may a bit difficult for referee to judge it but it is highly and timely for football associations around the world to reconsider using video playback.
They may be the team to beat in 05 / 06 season but with such incident like that , I wont be supporting them even if they were the last football team on this very little earth. Yes they won the premier league last year and they might make do it again this year. But would they be making headlines like being European Champions. No way jose.
The English Premier league might as well crowned Chelsea as the best foreign based team in England and Wales. And them to win the premier league ... woohhh what is there in such league anyway. So other teams may have a blend of local and foreign players as well.

Ehhh....might as well go play golf. Football now sucks....

I did jump up and down on the couch when I saw Ernie hitting his drive into the trees during his playoff with Tiger. Then when he shoots into the water , I knew Tiger will definitely gets it this time. And true enuf nothing can stop Tiger from making 2 out 2 this year, and I think more is yet to come.

Dopie, the putterhead cover

I had never use a putter cover since I have lost the orignal cover back in 2003. But then last year I found Dopie , a dolphin spongey and use it as my putter cover. There are a number of animal like putter or wood cover available in the golf industry but not many are available in Malaysia. How I wish those toymakers starts to manufacture more for the local market.

If anyone have come across any other unique putter or wood cover , wanna share some pics ?

Miri will be hosting the Malaysian Ladies Open tentatively in early March this year at Eastwood Valley. Hopefully the event will attract more travelling golfers to Miri. In April the Miri Masters will be one of the event sanctioned by MPGA also to be held at both KGM and Eastwood Valley. So if you are planning for your holiday locally , why not book a date to see both events in Miri. If you travel early to Miri , you might want to play a few rounds at Kelab Golf Miri or Eastwood Valley. At KGM it will cost you RM 120 for peak rate and RM 240 for Eastwood.

Golf over the long weekend

Did played on saturday and today. Managed to dig below 90 again and 8 pars per each round. The only problem is when I do make a mess of my approach to the green , it will hurt me so bad and I end up playing double or triple bogey for that hole. Hitting the ball with the driver from the tee is not so much of a problem . The only problem now is my approach to the green. Only 5 green on regulation today and also for saturday. I have got to make that time with club pro to check on my iron shots.Anyway , I won 8 balls today, he he he...with one sandy par on the par 5 6th.

Liverpool won against Portsmouth last nite and honestly I almost went to sleep watching the game. Not much of a good passing game but they went through to the next round.

Does Malaysian have what it takes to becomes a pro golfer...

Yes and No is the answer. But most of the time it is not simply because malaysians cannot do it but those who manages them are at fault. It is either you know them or you don't. In a conversation with a friend from KL over the phone , the number of registered golfer in this country has grown to almost 300,000 and those without proper registration to club members or any Golf playing packages you add another 300,000. Is it a good ratio to 20 million malaysian in this country.

How many school in this country has any golf development programme? Or have many boarding schools do ? Or have many universities undergrads take their time off their books to play golf?
Lucky enuf we have various development programmes at various golf clubs and some selected schools. But it only involves those kids whom parents are golfer or some of their closest relatives own a golf club or work at a golf club. And some kids who are not lucky enuf , they take up golf simply because they work as caddies at some of the walking courses in this region. A mere RM 20 for 18 holes , they get to witness various types of golfers hitting it while they carry their bags or drag their trolleys. But can you count how many golf courses in this country which does not have buggy ?
On the positive side of it , compared to 10 or 20 years ago , we do now have local dailies with some golf sections in it. We do have malaysians playing in the asian tour. We do now have Airil (in the picture while taking part in Miri Masters 2005) taking part in the Japan Tour . We do now have our very own Danny Chia who have made it to The Open last year. We do now have malaysians growing in numbers in the amateurs circuit. Yet these guys did not get the support they dearly need from us malaysians. How many of us watch them playing in the amateur or locally held MPGA tournaments ? I did , when Airil was playing in Miri. But how many took notice of him playing on the last day. Hey ! I am the only guy with the brolli who went all the way watching him make every shot on the final day.

Guess what I wish for 2006 ?
1. All golfers adopt a young boy or gal whom are not related to them and take them to the practise range.
2. All Malaysian Pro Golfer in this country gets a sponsorship , especially for their local travelling expenses.
3. All Malaysian Pro Golferin this country gets ball sponsorship or equipment sponsorship.
4. All registered amateurs are given the chance to get into top 50 amateurs and get sponsored to play in all amateur tournament in this country.
5. Schools to offer golfing hours for kids
6. Boarding school to get a chance to get adopted to nearby Golf Clubs for Junior development programmes.
7. Those undergrads to start learning about golf before they start become yuppies which will help to reduce the number of lost balls when they started to play golf when they get their jobs.
8. All caddies in this country gets to enroll in a registered organisation and they must be given benefits so that they can also grow and join any junior or senior development programmes
9. All film producers start to make films on the success stories like Danny and Airil.
10.All clubs in this country make an open day for the public to play at their clubs.
11.Sport body start channelling the sponsorship money to the young not to useless costly banners.
12. etc etc etc etc...
Can we do it Malaysians ? There you are , most of you will make their nasty cheeky smile to me and say.... dream on Jack. I havent given up my hope and will not stop dreaming either.

Someone used to tell me that I am not important to the organisation. That was like 6 years ago. Someone used to tell me that I will never make it to handicapp below 15 or even equivalent to it. Someone used to tell me that I am nothing but only a small time executive who will never make it to the top level management unless I took all those proffessional qualifications. Well , from today onwards I will the effort to meet those people and start telling them off that they are totally wrong. I will make them suffer by making them witness the fall of their great legacy. I will make them suffer by showing off my USGA Index handicapp card and I will gift them a lift in my new chaffeur driven merc.
Isn't that something ? Well ......

I did played at Eastwood last week with Dr R , his friend S and Dato W from KL. Dr R was admitting after few years playing golf , Eastwood Valley has its own unique features which had caught his attention. The course looks easy and flat but the raised greens are a feature not many golfers love to play. At the end of the game , I was bit taken away when someone compared my swing to Fred Couples . That is the first time someone did that to me , and why not whoever out there who knows Freddie , maybe ask him to drop by Miri and lets compare both him and my swing. One of them later that nite was making a exceptional statement about accountant playing golf which is quite rare for them. Maybe I am one of them ? am I ?

I did handed a cv of a fren to someone last month and today he was offered a high position job which he had dream to earn all this while. I felt good about it . It was a nice feeling though and I am hopefull that mr B will make it all the way to the top corporate world. Maybe 2006 is not that bad after all after a year long miserable 2005.

I did not take part in a traditional Festive season based competition at my club yesterday , only simply because I am too tired. After a full 18 hole with some frens from KL , I deserved a break at home with my family. On Sunday morning , the weather was glorious. Perfect for golf except for the last two holes, it rains.
Pic was taken on the fringe on hole 7 , when I did not make a good chip from the right hand side of the fairway , about 30 m away. And the short pitch to the green was even horrible , when I have to make a 10 feet putt to save bogey. The first nine was better than what I have played at the back nine. We started on hole 10 , good tee shot but can't get that second shot going to the green on regulation. Thus I ended up scoring bogey almost for thewhole 9 holes. Secod shot short of the green , then miserable chip to the pin with long putt to par the holes. The driver Maruman Exim Nano II was the only reason why I can make a good shot from the tee. Hitting 14 out of 14 fairway can be a reason to cheer for some pro but not for me simply because I did not make it count with poor second shot to the green. Then things started to go a bit better playing the front nine. With pars on par 4 , 3rd and 4th , par 5 6th and par 3 9th, eventually managed to score 43 for front nine. I will not have to do anything to the putting routine. Except when I am playing at different courses and playing different ball of course.
